On Issues That Are Not Black And White

February 12, 2013

Do you know the difference between a Covenant marriage and a Contract marriage? Contracts are most often made for a limited period of time. We lease a car for 36 months. We rent an apartment for 12 months. On the other hand, a covenant views commitments as permanent. The traditional wedding ceremony says, “So long as we both shall live,” or “until death do us part.” It makes a huge difference whether the young couple views marriage as a contract or a covenant. Is marriage for a life time, or only until one of us gets tired of the relationship? Marriage is a legal contract, but in the Bible, marriage is more than a contract. It is a covenant. Covenants hold us together when times are tough.
